Who or what determines this ? I have noticed that postings and subjects sometime seem to disappear very quickly, often before a reply can be drafted. Frequently I see new postings with an identical subject title. This suggests that the poster has also discovered that the thread has vanished and so posts a new article. In other newsgroups articles do not seem to disappear so quickly. Does rec.kites have low priority as a newsgroup ? My apologies if this posting seems to be yet another usage of rec.kites to discuss "administrivia", but I think this matter is important. This is determined locally. Articles are expired according to policy set locally. The system manager can chose to expire articles based on age, age by group or any other arbitrary criteria. Locally, it seems that the articles are expired by age, unless the disk where the articles are stored becomes nearly full, then newer and newer articles are expired until the free space gets back to a reasonable level. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Services Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
